Far North
In North Europe, there is a belief that the northern lights bridge the world of the living to the dead. Five years ago I began exploring an arctic country, Iceland - searching for those lights, to feel the soul of my father whom I lost when I was 22. Since his departure, my heart and mind circle around each other, trying to figure out the meaning of life and death. Why are we born? Why do we die?
Each journey to Iceland is punctuated by the unforgiving conditions of severe weather. Often there are severe snow storms that kill both natives and tourists. Mental illness is contributed by the lack of sunlight even in the summer. A country of intense extremes, I find kinship with Icelanders.
I move forth through the immense physicality of their country, photographing my own personal, inner landscape.
